ATO - New('ish) security layer - Voice authentication

I called the ATO today about something which I won’t mention as it’s not relevant to this, but I found through the IVR messages that they have a new optional layer of authentication security, on top of existing prompts to enter your TFN, DOB and bank account. The new layer is verbal, basically they record your voice, and they keep it on file. I did not opt for it at the time of my call as my time was limited, but also questioned to myself the existence of it in general, and privacy concerns and how it’s “measured”.

Has anyone encountered this, and have thoughts on it? It appears to have been launched September last year: https://www.ato.gov.au/Media-centre/Media-releases/ATO-launches-voice-authentication/
