One for the “faintly insane” file:
I just received a letter of demand of information from my bank starting out with the line:
“With recent changes to Australian legislation, we need to confirm if you’re a U.S. citizen or resident for tax purposes…”
(No I am not; and the A.T.O. surely knows this already.)
(Minimal) sarcasm intended: does PPau have a stated position regarding whose coat-strings Oz should be beholden to; and maybe which countries have automatic rights to dictate meta-policies (to all of us)?
Or is this simply one of the FTA provisions finally surfacing like a breaching whale/iceberg? [Suitable apologies for bad metaphor usage.]
