It appears to be relatively new and have gone straight into public beta. The provider is based in Switzerland, so for anyone who is paranoid about NSA snooping GMAIL, I suppose this could be a viable alternative as far as privacy and targeted advertising aka data harvesting is concerned?

If you forget your “MAILBOX” password, you’re screwed, and have to create a new account.
“Unfortunately, it is impossible for us to recover your Mailbox Password because we do NOT save this information on our servers. We never have access to your decryption password and as a result, we cannot recover something we don’t have. The only option is to create a new account.”
