Time to trade privacy for safety, says NSW Police Commissioner

NSW Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione says Australians will have to sacrifice some of their privacy expectations in order to stay safe from terrorist attacks and criminal activity.

Citation needed.

Yeah…no. Giving up our privacy may as well be the same thing as giving up our safety. It’s our privacy which helps to protect us from so many harms, whether they be physical, social, or financial. The threats he’s talking about are over-exaggerated, and in no way justify the kind of Big Brother system he seemingly would like to see put in place.

I question whether it’s really even appropriate for law-enforcement to comment on policy / legislation. Their role is to enforce law, not author it.
