Submission: Korea-Australia FTA submission

This is due 13 June 2014, and concerns the Korea-Australia Free Trade Agreement (KAFTA) currently before the Joint Standing Committee on Treaties (JSCOT). It contains at least two things we are opposed to:

  1. Investor-state dispute settlement (ISDS) provisions and
  2. A chapter on Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs).

The treaty itself is available (chapter by chapter) from DFAT: http://www.dfat.gov.au/fta/kafta/

The rest is self-explanatory in the document being worked on.

Was just reading a tweet by AFTINET, reminding us that Submissions are due this Friday.
Good to see there is already a post regarding this and we are working on something. i just thought i’d bump it seems submissions close in a few days.

Why is KAFTA so much broader than even AUSFTA?

Has the US gotten South Korea to sign an FTA with them, so that any we sign with South Korea is to the standard of the SK/US agreement?

Yes.

And the TPP is based on US-Korea and AU-Chile.
