Quite silly, telecommunications are essentially at the point where there isn’t actually any business need to retain call records/metadata, since all usage is unlimited besides quotas. Seems like a legacy issue where teleco’s needed call centres to have access to records to manage disputes, but these days the risks to data loss is greater than any usage call/sms charge disputes from customers.
